The Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) hosted the Centre of Excellence (COE) Research Seminar at Tingkat 5, Bangunan Yayasan Sarawak, bringing together academic researchers, industry innovators, and COE grant recipients to exchange ideas and showcase breakthroughs in science, technology, and digital innovation.

One of the key highlights of the seminar was the presentation of the Quantum Encryption Standard (QES) - a next-generation encryption framework jointly developed by Incyber Technology Malaysia and the University College of Technology Sarawak (UCTS).

Representing a major leap forward in national cybersecurity and digital sovereignty, the QES concept introduces a quantum-resilient encryption architecture designed to protect critical data infrastructures against both classical and quantum threats.

The presentation, delivered by researchers from UCTS and technology experts from Incyber Technology, emphasized how QES can serve as Malaysia’s foundation for secure government communications, financial systems, and defense-grade encryption protocols.

“Our mission is to make Malaysia the first country in ASEAN with its own sovereign encryption standard,” said a spokesperson from Incyber Technology. “The QES framework is designed to ensure data privacy, national independence, and long-term resilience against future quantum computing challenges.”

The COE Research Seminar organized by SMA aims to empower students and researchers under the Centre of Excellence Grant Program by giving them a platform to share their work with peers and industry partners.
