The Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine (FISU) has officially announced the winners of its unique international competition to decipher a hidden statement engraved on a commemorative intelligence coin. The contest attracted hundreds of skilled participants from various countries, but only a select few succeeded in fully uncovering both the content and contextual meaning of the cipher.
Among the distinguished winners were Oleg Vlasiy, Vladislav Vorona, Mikhail Shelest, and a joint Malaysian academic team representing Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), Quest International University (QUEST) and Chernihiv Polytechnic National University, Ukraine (CPNU).
The award ceremony took place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, where the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to Malaysia, H.E. Hennadiy Nadolenko, personally presented the winners with official certificates and commemorative gifts from the FISU.
The encrypted statement, embedded within the coin’s design, was revealed to be a quote by renowned Ukrainian political thinker Mykola Mikhnovsky:
“We are a handful, but we are strong with our love for Ukraine!.. We are not enough, but our voice will be heard everywhere in Ukraine, and everyone who has not yet lost heart will respond to us.”
The commemorative coin was originally issued to mark the Day of the Foreign Intelligence of Ukraine, introduced by Lieutenant General Oleg Ivashchenko, Head of the FISU, and Andriy Pyshny, Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine.
Beyond the competition itself, this initiative highlighted the strategic importance of scientific diplomacy and intellectual exchange. The collaboration between Ukrainian intelligence institutions and Malaysian universities UUM, QUEST and CPNU demonstrates how academic innovation and applied research can contribute to global understanding of cryptographic science, algorithmic modeling, and information protection.
This symbolic yet technically complex project represents not only a bridge between nations but also a testament to the shared pursuit of knowledge, precision, and analytical excellence in an era defined by cybersecurity challenges and digital intelligence evolution.
